Since Android 12, the system can build its entire colour scheme from your wallpaper — accent colours, notification backgrounds, quick-settings tiles. How well that works depends enormously on what the wallpaper is, and illustrated art has a real advantage over photography here. A drawing is usually built from a handful of deliberate, flat colours, so the extractor has clear candidates to pick from and returns an accent that actually appears in the image. A photograph is thousands of slightly different tones, and the same extractor often averages them into a muddy beige that matches nothing you can see.

The practical consequence is that pastel artwork produces a light, gently desaturated system palette, which looks calm but gives you a weak accent colour. If you want the interface to have some punch, pick a piece where one area is genuinely saturated — a strong hair colour, a bold background shape — and the system will usually lock onto it.
